The West Highland Way Hotel and Retreat offers a mix of hotel rooms, campsite pitches, and glamping options such as Safari Bell Tents and shepherd's huts. Hotel rooms include the Small Double Room and Deluxe Double or Twin Room with Garden View, each with private bathrooms and garden or mountain views. The campsite provides electric and non-electric pitches for motorhomes and campervans, plus a designated area for campfires and barbecues.

Pet-Friendly Policies

Dogs stay at no extra charge and are welcome throughout the property, including the hotel rooms and campsite. The hotel supplies pet bowls and dog treats for guests, and well-behaved dogs can roam freely on the grounds. The site also houses a resident pack of friendly dogs and runs an animal rescue centre for dogs, horses, and donkeys.

Dining

The on-site family-friendly restaurant serves British cuisine with vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options. Breakfast includes continental and American selections with fresh pastries, fruits, juice, and self-service toast and cereals. The coffee house on site offers free tea and coffee throughout the day, and guests can order cooked items like bacon or sausage rolls for an additional charge.

Location & Activities

The property sits at the official starting point of the West Highland Way, a 96-mile hiking trail through the Scottish Highlands. Nearby attractions include Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, Mugdock Country Park, and Glasgow Botanic Gardens, all within a short drive. The hotel provides hiking and cycling routes directly from the site, and guests can use the picnic area and outdoor fireplace for evening relaxation.

Charitable Mission

The West Highland Way Hotel operates as a not-for-profit organisation, with all proceeds funding an on-site animal rescue centre and support for homeless individuals. Van lifers and people living in their vehicles can use the facilities - including showers, toilets, and water - free of charge. The property also runs a riding school for disabled children and a donkey rescue sanctuary as part of its community outreach.

Very nice Stay!

helpful owner large portions
Andrew was helpful! The room was very comfortable. I enjoyed dinner. Portions were large and tasty. I also enjoyed the dog snuggling up to me while I worked!
The room backed onto the reception area. It was possible to clearly hear conversations at night despite the television being on.
Facilities
10/10
The hotel includes a cozy lounge area with a log burner and beautiful ambiance. Fresh water bowls were readily available for dogs. This is so great. Campers can use the 24-hour tea, coffee, and juice facilities, so kind!!!
Rooms
9/10
My room was huge, containing a king-size bed and two singles. The room felt luxurious. The hotel offers rooms for families and solo travelers. Each room provides a comfortable bed and nice accommodation.
Service

The staff were really good and so friendly and I have to admit that I was quite impressed! From early morning until late at night, there was always someone around to assist. Nicole, Francis, and Lee couldn't have been more helpful and friendly.

The setting is beautiful, nestled between mountains and trees. Pretty lights surround the house and campsite. The morning sunrise was out of this world. I caught the views and everything was amazing!!!

Comfortable stay with great amenities

friendly staff comfortable beds homely room
The staff were very friendly and accommodating. A conversation started immediately upon arrival. The beds were amazingly comfortable. The room felt just like home, but the bed was even more comfortable than the one I have at home.
The room was quite small. The pictures made it seem larger than it actually was. It was still manageable, but I needed to be creative with storing my luggage.
Facilities
9/10
The hotel features complimentary tea and coffee available at all times. Breakfast is included, offering cereal and toast. The shower rooms are kept very clean despite the outdoor conditions. The location between the mountains offers a quiet setting.

limited space shared bathroom
The single room was small. there was virtually no space for luggage. furthermore, the shared bathroom was not only used by other rooms inside the house but also by those camping. This lack of exclusivity was disappointing. the continental breakfast consisted of limited items such as bread, cereals, and instant coffee.
